Learn to Crochet

Learn to Crochet and Beyond the Basics will run concurrently until such time that numbers will prohibit this.

Want to learn to crochet, and youtube just isn’t doing it for you? This course is designed to teach you the basics of crochet, from those very first stitches you need to begin your creative journey. You will have your Certified Crochet teach in the room with you going over the steps.

You see crochet is not what it used to be, however some people still see it as that thing granny does, not anymore.

It is an absolute pleasure to be able to teach people this incredible handcraft. This course is designed for beginners, or for those who need refreshers of the basics. Learn how to create a slip knot and chain stitch and then you will learn single and double crochet. These stitches are the absolute foundation of every stitch you will need when you start to read patterns.

 

You will receive printouts and descriptions of each stitch and how it is completed. It is also very important to understand the difference between UK and US stitches as the names are different although the stitches and how they are created are the same. (This is important for when you begin to read and purchase patterns)

What you will learn

• How to hold your hook and yarn
• Learning basic stitches Slip knot, chain, double crochet and treble crochet.
• Edging your work
• Finishing off ie: weaving in ends and blocking
• Working in the round
• A lifelong skill
• Learning the basics of crochet
• Understanding the stitches and how they are used.

So, you have made the fabulous decision to learn to crochet, you have learnt the basics and now have the stitch itch and want to move on to new and more exciting stitches, learn tips and tricks, read patterns all while you learn to create and have fun.

This ongoing class is designed to show you all these things with a hands-on approach, your certified crochet tutor will be in the room with you and be able to answer all your questions on the spot.

Classes will include

Learn how and why to do a gauge swatch.

Learn new stitch combinations.

Understand the difference between US and UK terminology.

Follow patterns.

How to increase and decrease.

How to do a hidden increase in the corner of your work.

4 students are required for class to proceed

6.45 pm for 7.00 pm start

‘My name is Kathy and I have been crocheting for almost 50 years and many might say that I am addicted. I became a certified crochet teacher in 2023 after completing the Crochet Guild Australia Teacher training course.
As a young girl I started with granny squares and by the time I had my first child at 19 I was able to read patterns and create beautiful baby shawls. I love to create intricate and colourful wearables for the whole family and have made many one-off items that have made their way to friends and family across the world. I love to save granny square blankets and have recently begun to upcycle them into wearables. This is something that I would love to share with each of you as you begin your very own journey.’
